COLOR CONTROL & SEPARATION
A hands-on studio lighting workshop led by Charles McNeill. Designed for emerging and developing photographers, this session focuses on learning how to control background color using gels while keeping the subject clean, properly lit, and separated from the backdrop.

WHAT WAS TAUGHT?
Participants learned how to build a repeatable studio lighting setup using multiple lights and modifiers. The workshop demonstrated how to light a cyclorama background with gels and create separation between the subject and background. Attendees also explored shaping contrast using negative fill, and positioning lights for stronger depth.
We broke down the gear setup, including background lights with gels, key lighting, fill light, and rim lighting, along with the modifiers used.
Hosted at Croo Studios in Downtown Fayetteville, this workshop provided a focused, educational environment to experiment, ask questions, and build practical studio lighting skills. Participants worked with professional lighting equipment and a styled model, gaining real-world experience that can be applied to future studio shoots.
