Explore the history of Renaissance drapery and learn how fabric can transform a simple space into an elegant, fine-art-inspired backdrop. In this hands-on workshop, Jonathan will show participants how textiles were used by Renaissance artists to create depth, movement and luxury feel while exploring how those same principles can be applied to modern photography and set design.
Through demonstrations and guided hands-on exercises, you'll explore fabric types, weight, texture, shien, stretch, and draping behavior while learning techniques including pleating, layering, weaving, pinning, and shaping. You'll also learn how to determine fabric quantities and use principles such as balance, contrast, proportion, repetition, and negative space to create a drapery installation. Participants will work together to create a Renaissance inspired backdrop and learn how to polish the installation for photography.
